What is a Payroller you ask? Someone who administers payroll, of course!
If you run a company that does not have full time employees or only hires contractors through
elance or
odesk , then your need for payroll and time tracking software is minimal. However, as a business owner, you have to delegate tasks to someone you trust as you grow. If contractor sites are not a long term solution for you, a Payroll system is a MUST for your business. It’s better to have the kinks worked out BEFORE bringing your help on board, and you can sign up as a solo gig with any of these sites to familiarize yourself with features and capabilities.
We’re showcasing intuitive tools which can be set up within an hour to manage contractors and/or employees. Not only will this simplify your accounting practices, but you will be better prepared at tax time. Each tool has a proven reliability track record and comes highly recommended by its users. All three have mobile usage capability, and at the time this blog post was written, and all three offer free trials.
- Clockspot Progress reports to reduce likelihood of being ‘duped’ by a dishonest worker. Reports are generated quickly and easily. Compatible with Excel for those of you who want to export and work with data. Free 30 day trial. Task and message capability from supervisors and employees. Managed permissions for each user. Phone clock in available. Pricing as low as $24 a month for 1 manager and two employees.
- KeepTempo Simple, easy design, affordable pricing. KeepTempo easily integrates with project management, and is ideal for businesses that run ‘per project’. Every employee/contractor can time according to project, so information can be graphed and tracked to improve organization and effective team use on future projects. KeepTempo is a simplified version of Clockspot, with the same export capabilities and advanced reporting. Integration with other tools, such as 37 signals Basecamp and Quickbooks available. Competitive pricing. Twitter integration available.
- Tsheets is just as sophisticated as Clockspot, with a few extra features like Keep Tempo; on the surface it appears to be an integration of the two. Twitter integration, phone call clock in available, cell phone app, log in via text. Employee alerts help keep everyone in the loop and recording time accurately. Custom permission levels, custom field entries, PTO and sick time tracking available as well. Pricing is competitive as well.
What about security/back up? Great question! This is a big concern when utilizing a web based system with so many features and add-ons. Keep Tempo boasts of SSL encryption and daily back up, as does TSheets. At the time of this posting, Clockspot did not list security features on its web site. However, they boast large brand name clients, so we don’t see an issue with security or back up from Clockspot. Double check when signing up!
